The Lipstick I Have Chosen

Two lipsticks sat on my makeup kit that day:
matte and glossy
and I needed to be ready for the party, so I swatched the matte…
and the glossy as well.
It looked shiny and shimmering.
Oh yes! it was beyond mesmerizing
Yet it was what all the other girls are wearing.
I looked at the matte
and it didn’t look bad and flat.
But sorry, I couldn’t put on the two and have two pairs of lips.
So I chose the matte one
and kept the glossy one for another day.
Yet knowing how easily it would leave my lips,
I doubted if I should ever wear it.
Without any sign of a regret or a sigh,
I shall be wearing what my heart has chosen
And talk about it to my best friend.
Some time before the party:
two lipsticks sat on my makeup kit, and I
chose the matte for my lips to wear.
It didn’t budged but stayed on my lips forever,
And that has made all the difference.

- Cristine Despares

*A poem inspired by Robert Frost's 'The Road Not Taken'. Nothing spectacular, this is written all for the importance of choice and admiration for beauty.

Everyday, perhaps every seconds of our lives we are bombarded by different choices. Some of them might be as easy as choosing a beverage from Starbucks', yet there are those that require not just a minute or an hour of weighing things. Funny how even our choice for a simple thing such as a lipstick can occupy much of our thoughts (just for some girls only though).

I am currently in a state of choosing the best career option laid unto me. I felt blessed having varied options but I couldn't help feeling confuse at the same time. Each has their own advantages and disadvantages and I know for sure that nothing out of them would be perfect. Perfection doesn't exist and I strongly consider the idea of perfection as a subjective reality. I can only choose what's the best out of the circumstances attached into each of them. I might be labeled choosy, I wouldn't care less. My mind have come into a conclusion that any choice no matter how small it is has the power to lead us to damnation or to happiness. But then who really decides if we are damned or happy?

Have a wonderful weekend everyone. Don't forget to exercise your right to choose what your heart desires.

love lots,
Tin

  2. yes, we are those who decide what happens of us.... and even the smallest choices can be very meaningful.

I really like your poem...and I can understand you. Today we have to make choices all the time and this can be quite stressful. I even read one article that says that this modern's world neccesity for daily choices makes us less productive.

Nevertheless, important choices deserve our time and attention. You take your time to decide. You are very wise for realizing that everything has its advantages and disadvantages. It is important that we be realistic when we think about such things, but at the same time it is important to keep dreamining (if you know what I mean).

  5. Cristine, choices are there to be made and at this time, in your younger age, try to have a feel of what is available for you. Then later, you can decide what to follow. All the best!

  6. Like the butterfuly effect, even that tiny choice can lead to big things. So true! But with sweet, sexy lips like those I can imagine it would be a difficulty to chose a lipstick ;) Lots love -- Sham

  7. Just decide what you think the best for you.
Every job has it‘s own problem, but if you love the job then problem is just a small matter.
Just do things that makes you happy :).

  10. Hi there, Tin! Hope everything is going well!

I replied to your comment on my blog just to let you know that you made me so happy with your sweet comment :D

Know talking about the lipstick and the power of make up in beauty I found it very inspirational, actually I worked for Maybelline back in Mexico and the experience was so good and beyond, they were always looking for creative ways to communicate to people the new brand values and new products. I think a poem like the one you shared could work for a campaign! Love how the storytelling was related to your product in this article!

    Have a great week!
