Watch the Addams Family Perform Live in Cebu!

I’ve always wanted to be part of a theater group and perform on stage. It started as a frustration when I wasn’t able to audition for a huge production in our school while I was still in the elementary. Fast forward four years ago, I was able to muster every ounce of confidence I had and perform a one-act play in front of a huge number of audience. It was a final project for a Theater course in college, but it is one of the most treasured experiences I have as a student. Learning about the art for a semester is also bliss as it made me appreciate it more.
Theater taught and gave me so much than being on stage. It taught me the value of hard work, time management, and the magic of healthy collaboration. What everybody doesn’t know is that it is more than just the spectacle on stage; it is a commitment, and just like any art forms, passion fuels it. I will always have a special respect and admiration to those who are in the theater industry. Now that I get the chance to teach the basics of the art, I hope that I shall pass on what I’ve learned to my students.
A couple of weeks ago, I attended a press conference for an upcoming theater performance here in our Cebu. It was musical play produced by one of the newest musical theater companies in Cebu - the Vaudeville Theater Company. Seeking to provide local artists an avenue for artistic expressions on stage, the company works with local artists and helps them discover and develop their potentials.
After the success of their first huge production You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown on 2016, Vaudeville is now ready to push the limits of Cebuano theater as it brings us a musical play featuring The Addams Family. The play will revolve around the darling daughter of the iconic family, Wednesday Addams.
Wednesday Addam, now eighteen years old, has found herself experiencing a surprising new sensation, one that frightens both her and her family: she has fallen in love.
As her family learn to relate to the seemingly normal Beinekes and cope with Wednesday's romance, one thing is certain, the Addams family will never be the same!

The Addams Family Musical is directed by artist, VTC Founder, extraordinaire, Penelop "Penny" Ong who was trained at Musical Theater International, New York and International Academy of Film and Television in Cebu. She has directed local and Broadway musicals including ballet shows. The Addam Family will be her 17th directiorial work.
Along with Penny, other talented Cebuanos also shared their passion in making the musical a future success. Actor, choreographer and stage performer Vince Gaton serves as the play's dance director. Two-time Awit Award-winning songwriter Jude Gitamondoc serves as its music director.

With all of their rehearsals and workshops, the actors revealed that theater brings out the best in them and inspires them to give their best.
For the young actors involved, doing the rehearsals while studying was no easy feat but a very rewarding one.

We got to listen to some of their songs and we were more than convinced to watch the musical. It will be another proof that Cebu is a home of creatives.

  2. The Addams Family 1991 was the first film I ever remember watching.. kind of makes me laugh now that I noticed the adult themes present there. I've been following the Addams Family Musical for years (via bootleg and recordings) and I've seen the show go through rewrite after rewrite from Chicago to Broadway.. I loved Nathan Lane and Bebe Newirth, and Crysta Rodriguez was sensational as Wednesday, but the Tour version is the ultimate version, I think, plot-wise and character-wise. Douglas Sills in the US Tour reminds me a lot of the late Raul Julia, but sadly, in the musical, Nathan Lane beats him in projection and comedic timing, but that's just my opinion.

I'm really jealous that you got a chance to watch it and perform it and just be there-- congrats!! Keep moving towards the darkness!
