I love putting makeup on. I know some people would find it unnecessary and superficial to do so, but applying makeup gives me an undeniable sense of joy. Ever since I started putting makeup on in college, I’ve always been in love with enhancing my facial features by putting on a little bit of color.

While still at university, I only used three makeup products: face powder, eyebrow pencil, and lipstick. Having a limited budget as a student, I used makeup from Filipino beauty brands. These Filipino brands may be locally made, but I am happy that their products have no harmful chemicals, are vegan, and do not adhere to animal testing. Also, as a consumer, I can attest that their quality is pretty good and can be at par with known international beauty brands.

If there’s one gift that would surely bring a smile to my face it would probably be the new makeup. I’m not exactly adventurous when it comes to trying new brands of makeup, but if an opportunity arises for me to see if something works better than what I already have, then I wouldn’t pass on the chance to do it.

Recently, I got my hands on some products from Focallure, a makeup brand from China. I got them as gifts from a friend and she swears by some of the items that she sent me. I have heard of the brand from a popular online shopping portal in the Philippines, but I haven’t tried any of them. I know most ladies would cringe at using products from a brand that is not exactly a household brand yet, but I don’t want to make my friend feel bad by not trying on some of the gifts she gave me.

Below is a photo of the Focallure makeup my friend gave me. I have used the products occasionally, and I grew to love some of them, which is why I decided to write this review, apart from sharing an unbiased insight for each item. The products from Focallure come at affordable prices, so I can understand the hesitation of many beauty lovers to purchase and use any of them. However, I also believe that price isn’t the only way to know if one thing works or not.

Not knowing anything about Focallure, I decided to learn more about the brand, and what I’ve learned from its official website is that Focallure, pronounced as “Fo-co-llure”, is a cosmetic company that aims to bring out each person’s undiscovered beauty through the power of makeup. The brand was established in 2014 by a group of fun-loving makeup scientists who came together to make cosmetics unmatched in the industry. I wish there was more information about the brand itself, but I was glad to find that it has a viable website online.

Tinted Eyebrow Gel

It wasn't long ago since I started using tinted eyebrow gels. Although I love how much time I can save using eyebrow pens, using eyebrow gels give my eyebrows a more defined look. Also, it lasts longer than eyebrow pens. I love this gel from Focallure; it lasts long and color stays throughout the day. Plus, it's relatively cheaper compared to other eyebrow gel brands I have purchased the previous year.

Gel Eye Liner (Black)

When I welcomed the new year, I told myself to be ready to try new things, including new and better products. Trying on gel eye liners is one of the things that I've always love trying and I'm happy that I'm able to do it.

The gel eye liner from Focallure does work. It has the right consistency and it dries pretty. However, my eye lids being sweaty, I don't think this will work on my everyday make up look since it takes time to put them on, and sadly, it smudges on certain amount of wetness on the skin. Hence, I would not recommend this to those who have oily eye lids. Still, it's a great product and you can still use it if you're not doing so much physical work.

The eyebrow gel and the gel eyeliner from Focallure come in similar packaging. They come in a sturdy box which has the necessary product information such as its ingredients, color, manufacturing date, and QR code.

Cream Contour

I've been a fan of cream contour ever since I started putting on makeup after the pandemic. For this cream contour from Focallure, I love the way my skin looks with it, and I received so many compliments. It goes on smoothly, and I used my trusted brush to easily blend it out. It looks natural and I absolutely love it. It is also affordable, which means it's a great addition to the make up kit of young ladies or beginner MUAs.

Eye Lash Curler

I've always wanted to have lifted eyelashes, but I have semi-hooded eyes which I believe causes eye lash curler to pinch my eye lid whenever I try to curl my lashes. I love this eye lash curler from Focallure. Though it still causes a tiny pinch here and there, it does the work for me, despite being cheaper. Plus, it comes with an extra curling pad.

Nichido Mineralized Eyebrow Sculpting Gel Review

Hello friends! I hope you're doing all fine. It's been a while since I've blogged about a makeup product that I had so much fun doing. Don't get me wrong, I still love makeup a lot and enjoy putting them on, except during the long lockdown at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic when I didn't really have to go out a lot. Now that the restrictions have loosened up, I'm now able to enjoy putting full makeup on with one exception and that would be my lipstick. I still love having them on but when you have to wear a face mask most of the time, you'll have to give it up.

One makeup product that I always have with me is my eyebrow products. I would actually switch between my eyebrow pencil and my eyebrow gel. I love using both but recently, I've been using the eyebrow gel a lot as it stays longer which is really useful considering the summer weather that we are now enjoying in the Philippines.

I got my eyebrow gel from Nichido which is a popular Filipino brand. It's nothing high-end if we are to look into the prices of their products, but a majority of what I've tried from them really works. If you're curious about its Japanese name, it's because the brand has some help from Japanese consultants.

Having been using the product for a while now, I thought about taking some photos of it and writing a short review about how it works.

This is what the product looks like. It's in a very small container which makes it a makeup kit and travel-friendly. Although it seems like there's not a lot of product, it's not something that you can use in an instant.

In its cap, you'll find a small brush that you can use to apply the product. I love how it is compared to other eyebrow products with a built-in brush as it ensures that the brush remains clean.

This is what the gel looks like. It has the right consistency, not too creamy and not too hard, although, of course, it hardens once it is applied to the eyebrow. When I was shopping for the gel, I only had to choose between two shades, but there might be more shades available. I chose the shade called Macchiato which is a bit lighter as I also had my hair colored light recently.

Looking into the packaging of the product, everything that you need to know about the product is in its box container. It includes details such as its ingredients and manufacturing details.

And here's how I look like wearing the product. I know, I look tired as I didn't have much sleep when I took the photo but I just want to show you what the product looks like in natural light. My hair was still very dark when I had the photograph taken, but now that I am sporting a lighter shade, it still works well. Also, it lasts really long. I do apply a bit of eyebrow powder on top of it just to keep it within its shape, but it also works without it.

The product costs 291.00PHP. it was almost 5USD. Having used this for a few months, I do not have any issue with using the product. Considering how it works, I would say that I am satisfied with my purchase and I would happily recommend this to anyone.

February is finally here which means we will all be celebrating love in so many ways. Although love isn't something exclusive for couples, we cannot deny that spending time with our special someone is a great way to celebrate Valentine's Day.

It wasn't only until last year since I started taking a skin-deep introspection on the products that I use in my skin. I love makeup - that's a fact, and while I'm not yet using 100% cruelty-free makeup products, I am trying my best to start with my skincare. Gearing towards sustainable choices led me to use organic and cruelty-free soap, shampoos, and conditioners. Aside from its benefits by having zero harmful chemicals, it's a big bonus that organic products do not use plastics in their packaging.

When my dear blogger friend Cyki Nikki, invited me for a beauty and wellness product launch at Dohera Hotel, I took the executive decision to say yes and attend the event. Viola! It was all worth it when I found out that the products have well-grounded roots on natural skincare protection and treatments.

Founded by passionate individuals, Bakku2Basik, the Manila-based skincare brand is born out of a purposeful conversation over skincare which is absent amongst other skincare lines. Leveraging on the beauty of organic ingredients, B2B aims to provide well-researched organic skincare products. From Manila with love, Bakku2Basik's coco Cider Soap is now in Cebu and is ready to share its wonders with the Cebuanos.

Their main product is the Coco Cider Vinegar Soap is mostly made out of organic coco cider vinegar (with Mother) and activated charcoal. The soap is great for the face and for the body. Because it is mainly made out of natural, unfiltered, and raw coco cider vinegar with mother, it won't damage the skin, unlike other beauty and cleansing soaps. Coco cider is made out of the flower sap of coconut trees. After 8-12 months of fermentation, it turns into vinegar. It is a rich source of various nutrients and minerals. Exactly like the more popular apple cider vinegar, coconut vinegar is considered a functional ‘superfood’ because it has healing benefits beyond its nutritional content. When compared to apple cider vinegar, however, a coconut simply has more nutrients than an apple, thus offering a naturally higher source of minerals and phytonutrients.

Activated charcoal, a fine black powder, made from bone char, coconut shells, peat, petroleum coke, coal, olive pits or sawdust. The charcoal is "activated" by processing it at very high temperatures. Both of these ingredients can contribute to the total wellness of our skin. The combination of both made BsB's soap more powerful than other products available in the market. It is also paraben and fragrance-free. Aside from its skin rejuvenation and anti-aging properties, it is also beneficial in treating some skin diseases like psoriasis and melasma.

I had the chance to use B2B's coco cider vinegar soap, and I just have to review how it is. Knowing that it is made of natural ingredients, I didn't hesitate using it. I also asked my brother and sister to use it to see if the product really works on different skin types.

Product Description & Claims:

This is the only product that contained two of the most powerful based ingredients in skin whitening/brightening. It is naturally extracted and it is paraben-free (which means no preservatives content), fragrance-free and it is good for all skin type and irritated skin.

Its ingredients are well researched and well-thought-of as it aims to boost skin defense against some form of bacteria and fungi (which other soaps could not do) as well as reduces skin infestations such as body odor and pimples.

PACKAGING:

There is nothing over-the-top with how the soap was packaged. The soap is in a simple plastic container and a good quality paper box. I like that it's being sustainable with its packaging but functional at the same time. Significant details such as the product's ingredients, manufacturing date & place, direction, and storage were all written in the box.

PRICE:
The retail price of Coco Cider Soap is P200 per piece. B2B ships in a minimum order of 3 pieces with a base shipment cost of P50 if the delivery address is just within Zamboanga City and P100 if it is outside Zamboanga City. The soap is only available to one size, but I think it would make everyone happy because it is just enough for its price and because it can be divided into several pieces. Something that you can use yourself for some time or share with your loved ones!

In totality, I love the Coco Cider Soap from B2B Manila. What I love most about the product is its efficacy when it comes to preventing body odor. Let's be real, we all use deodorant products which are actually very damaging to our skin. From my experience, the soap really prevents body odor, but not for a whole-day period. I like that its users could really get the most out of their money using the product as it really doesn't dissolve easily. I have sliced one soap into four for my siblings because I want them to try it as well.

My ten-year-old brother is using it for his pimple. He is almost a teenager so a pimple grew on his nose and it really bothers him. Knowing that the product claims to help remove/prevent pimples, I let him use the soap. We did notice that the pimple reduced in size, but for almost 2 weeks of use, it hasn't gone off completely. I'll update this blog once it's all gone!

The product also claims to have a significant whitening effect but I don't really feel like I got whiter in any sense from using it. Note that I do have fair skin already so it's difficult for me to say that I got fairer because of the soap. My brother has a warmer skin tone and we haven't really noticed that his skin got lighter. He is also using the product for his face. Similarly, he has been using the product for a couple of weeks so maybe it needs more time.

All in all, I really love the soap.

As a consumer, I definitely recommend it primarily because it's organically made and done using locally-sourced ingredients. I'll be updating this blog as soon as I noticed significant improvement on my skin in terms of its whitening power. Bakku2Basik has other sustainable products in line which I would all love to try. I'm actually planning to order some of their products as gifts for the holiday season.
