Lorde Royals Inspired Makeup

Hello friends! Today, I have a quick and easy makeup tutorial for you. We all have our own ways of wearing our everyday makeup, so for a little spice, I'm trying to create a look inspired by Lorde's Royals music video.

The first time I heard the song, I instantly fell in love with it—and even more so after watching the music video. I was drawn to the beat, the concept, and of course, Lorde’s striking makeup. It’s not overly complicated, yet it carries such a bold, powerful vibe. What makes it even better is how wearable it is. It’s perfect for a night out or even for creating dramatic, photo-ready looks. If you’re thinking of updating your night-out makeup, this look is definitely worth trying.

Since this isn’t a video tutorial, I’ve prepared step-by-step photos to guide you in achieving the look. Before starting with the eyes, I’ve already applied my base makeup, including an eyeshadow primer. I’ve also filled in my brows—though they might not be too noticeable in the step-by-step photos (lol).

STEP 1.

DRAW A TRIANGULAR LINE ON YOUR OUTER LIDS
It’s a bit tricky to put into words, so take a good look at the photo above for reference. You can use your preferred gel eyeliner to recreate the look, but in my case, I opted for a liquid eyeliner since I find that it lasts longer on my eyes.

STEP 2

COVER THE ENTIRE LINE WITH A BLACK PENCIL EYELINER
The pencil eyeliner will increase the longevity of the liquid eyeliner by setting it. You can also use it to correct the triangular lines if it is a little crooked. Don't forget to also line your lower lash line.

STEP 3

APPLY BLACK EYE SHADOW ABOVE THE EYELINERS
Using your blackest eye shadow, create a similar effect on the inner lids of your eyes. Don't overdo it and keep the center of your lids clean.

This is what your eyes should look like when you open them.

STEP 4
APPLY MASCARA AND FALSE EYELASHES
I actually forgot to take a close-up photo of my eyes with mascara and falsies—but you get the idea, right? Mascara plus falsies. You can use any type you prefer, but for this look, I went with a lash-lengthening mascara paired with natural-looking falsies to keep it defined yet still effortless.

STEP 5
FINISH YOUR MAKEUP WITH A PINKISH NUDE LIPSTICK
A soft lip color pairs perfectly with this eye makeup. Of course, you can go for something bold if you prefer, but if you’re aiming for a Royals-inspired look, a pinkish nude lipstick is the way to go. I didn’t have a single shade that matched, so I mixed two different lipsticks to achieve the color I wanted.

FINISHED LOOK :)
Lorde’s gorgeous hair is a bit tricky for me to recreate since my hair is naturally straight. I didn’t use a curling iron this time because I was heading to work right after taking these photos (lol). Still, to channel a bit of that signature Lorde vibe, I lightly teased my hair for added volume and texture.

Not trying to look exactly like Lorde because duhh there can never be any other Lorde! This is a perfect look for a night out or if you just want to feel like your own queen.

I hope you enjoyed this post, everyone. Now grab your eyeliners and bring out the inner Lorde in you!

love lots,
Tin

PS: You have no idea how much I'd love to live in warm country like you do ;) Faux fur coats are amazing, but I don't like cold and short days at all. But hopefully, the spring is coming to my country :)
