BLOODLINE by Sidney Sheldon: A Book Review
Bloodline was the fifth book I read that was written by Sidney Sheldon. I first read one of his novels two years ago when I was still in junior high. The book I read back then was Rage of Angels. At first, I thought it might be boring because of its old appearance. It belonged to my older brother, who claimed he found it somewhere on a highway (IDK if he was telling the truth ;p). Wherever it came from or who really owned it didn’t matter; what mattered was that the book was something precious.
At that time, I hadn’t developed a reading habit, but Sidney Sheldon’s novel led me into a reading addiction. After finishing Rage of Angels, I continued reading more of his works when I entered university, including If Tomorrow Comes, Tell Me Your Dreams, and Morning, Noon & Midnight. Bloodline is the only Sidney Sheldon book I own. I purchased it for just 77.00 PHP, yes, very cheap because I bought it from BookSale, a second-hand bookstore in the Philippines. Sidney Sheldon’s books have always been on my favorite list.
Bloodline is another must-read. The story revolves around the Roffe family, owners of a multi-billion-dollar company, Roffe and Sons. The entire family is devastated when Sam Roffe, the head of the company, dies in a mysterious accident, leaving his daughter Elizabeth to manage the company. Soon, Elizabeth discovers that her relatives are eager to sell their shares, turning the company into a public one. But that’s not all: Elizabeth also finds herself at the top of her murderer’s list.
The book is full of suspense and thrills. I would be overjoyed to read all of Sidney Sheldon’s books. His stories never fail to surprise and engage me. What intrigues me most is the space he gives readers to speculate on possible events, like the role of Kate Erling in the Roffe family, the real relationship between Helene and Rhys, and the detailed conspiracies Sir Alec might have plotted in his mind. Most disturbing of all is the question: Who killed Sam Roffe? I scanned the book repeatedly, but it wasn’t explicitly stated. Helene bought mountain climbing shoes, yet Rhys accompanied him, and Sam Roffe’s death remained ambiguous.
As you reach the ending chapters, even more shocking revelations unfold. Indeed, Bloodline is another masterpiece from the master of thrillers himself, Sidney Sheldon.
