A Night with my English Fellas!

Last August 20, 2010, the English Fellows Club of Cebu Normal University held an acquaintance party. The English Fellows Club consists of students who are taking degree programs majoring in English. The club chose a theme that encouraged everyone to wear Korean attire or cosplay costumes.

I decided to wear Korean attire since it was easy to find and convenient to wear. The day before the party, I bought a pink and black bonnet to complete my look and make myself appear more Korean. If that even makes sense. I have to admit, I thought I looked cute wearing it.

For my outfit, I wore a yellow blouse with a fashionable print, black shorts, black stockings, green rubber shoes, and of course, the bonnet I mentioned earlier. When I looked at myself in the mirror, I could not help but laugh. I looked like some kind of jejemon, which made the whole experience even funnier. I also curled my hair using an electric hair iron that I bought the previous month. It was actually meant for the College of Teacher Education (CTE) acquaintance party, but I did not get the chance to use it because I ran out of time.

The party was supposed to start at 5:00 pm, but the organizers needed more time to prepare the venue, so it began a bit late. It started around 6:30 or maybe even 7:00. Anyway, I did not mind the delay, and neither did my fellow English majors.

Instead of getting bored while waiting, we stayed at the University Cafe and took lots of pictures. I really enjoyed taking photos with them. I do not own a camera, but my friends brought several, so we had plenty to use. I even tried some girly poses just to blend in with the girls. We also took some wacky shots, which turned out really cute.

I put on some makeup before the party started. I am not a pro, but I know the basics. The other girls also wanted to wear makeup, so they brought their own kits. Some of them knew how to apply it themselves, while others did not, so they asked for my help. That was when the makeup artist in me came out.

Novi, Janine, and Christine asked me to do their makeup. I applied pink eyeshadow on Novi, blue on Janine, and liquid eyeliner on Christine. All of them requested liquid eyeliner because what's a K-pop-inspired makeup without it?

When the party started, we went to the venue together. We were not seated together because the club had arranged the seating, so there was nothing we could do about it. Even though I was not with them, I still enjoyed the party. The cosplay contest was very funny and entertaining. As expected in any cosplay event, some were amazing while others were not so great. My favorite cosplayers were the group from the Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSEd) juniors. They dressed up as Aang and his friends, Katara, Toph, and Zuko.

I love acquaintance parties. I think it's a good way for young students like us to loosen up and get to know each other outside our classes. It's also a good time to meet new friends, which I certainly did. My friends and I went home at 9:00. There was supposed to be an all-out disco after the party, but I think it was canceled because many people decided to go home early. Others went off campus to chill somewhere else, which I find really cool. Unfortunately, I couldn't do that since I promised my mom to be back before 10, and to go home straight after the event.
