What others would call green or sustainable living wasn't something that I am consciously doing when I was younger. However, for the past few years, it has become one of the things that I would like to consistently embody in my daily life. What they say about wisdom coming with age is probably true. While I'm not all-knowing about sustainability, I'm aware of its huge impact on everything and everyone around me. It's something that I try to practice, but I also know that I fail in some areas. Honestly, I can't say if I could do it all 100%, but the thought doesn't discourage me from what I can do because I know that regardless of how insignificant or little my efforts would be, they would still make an impact.

By definition, green or sustainable living is a lifestyle that seeks to conserve and preserve whatever beauty that the Earth has bequeathed us. A colossal thing to achieve, but entirely possible. In the Philippines, despite the news that most of us Filipinos rate high in care for the environment, most of us find it a challenge to start. I guess that's the thing about good change. We know that we want and change it, but we feel unsure about setting a rendezvous point to realize our goals. Sounds grim but we can always start at something. Each of us can be part of creating ripples of good things that will turn into something big. Everything that is impactful starts with something small and we don't have to be Jane Goodall or Leonardo Di Caprio to do our part in giving the planet what it deserves. The Earth has yet to be restored, but when we do it together, soon it will be at hand.

I have yet so much to learn when it comes to the sustainable living but here are some tiny, yet useful ways that I can think of as its starting point:

🌱🍃 Nature Getaway🌱🍃

Decide an area where you would like to begin a sustainable practice. It could be anything that you feel comfortable with. One of the easiest choices is opting for a nature getaway instead of reveling in something cacophonic. In the world of #travelgoals, going for a travel plan that is healthy and sustainable is crucial not only for your wellbeing but also for the environment. Choose your travel destination well. Check if the place embodies what is hailed as sustainable tourism. Seek to answer questions like is the place practicing proper garbage proposal and is concerned with human development?

🌱🍃 Green Rides 🌱🍃

It's no secret that carbon omission has so much to do with pollution. Riding a bicycle or opting for better and earth-friendly vehicles are great ways to help the earth breathe. This is of course only applicable to some, but still, our choices can contribute so much.

🌱🍃 Live with Nature 🌱🍃

People are getting crazy about buying home decors that would make their home look so much chic than it already is. A beautiful home does not need to be expensive and yes it could be sustainable. For instance, you could work on a breathable air-lapse home that feels cool sans the use of air-conditioners. Buying from local manufacturers and designers is also a perfect way to achieve a lovely interior while also supporting the local economy, not to mention local artists. Living plants are also great decors!

🌱🍃 Walk for the Earth 🌱🍃

If you have to go somewhere for an errand, walk if you can. This is great especially if the distance is doable and if the weather condition allows. You wouldn't only save the earth from leaving a carbon footprint, but walking is also a great exercise.

🌱🍃 Grow Your Food 🌱🍃

The ncov19 brought about so many challenges to mankind. So many aspects of our lives have been affected especially our food consumption. I bet we can all agree on how going for groceries has been a challenge. This is why people opted in making their own food and growing them. If your current space allows, growing your own food is a fantastic way to practice sustainability and some cash. Don't worry, this doesn't mean that you have to tend to huge vegetation. Start by growing plants that grow easily such as onions.

🌱🍃 Stay Clean with Sustainability 🌱🍃

A huge portion of trashes in our landfill comes from the packaging of our sanitary products such as soap, shampoo, laundry detergents, deodorants, and menstrual pads. The good news is that more and more eco stores are now open to cater to our needs and keep the environment clean. Instead of the usual sanitary items wrapped in plastics, choose eco-products made with natural ingredients and packaged in compostable or recycled materials. Because some of these products are made with natural ingredients, they are also much better for our health. The same thing goes for grocery items. Eco stores discourage the use of plastics so you can refill items that you need using what you have at home such as bottles or Tupperware. You can also practice sustainability in major grocery stores and malls by bringing your own eco bag and refusing the use of plastics. I've done this so many times where I got so many blank expressions from salespersons. Those stares are nothing because I know I have made a purposeful choice.

🌱🍃 Mind the Ocean 🌱🍃

The ocean is a cauldron of life. Long before humans walked the earth, the ocean made so much ancient life possible. People often forget and ignore the life that grows and thrives in the ocean. It's no secret that in this modern age, people still treat the ocean and other bodies of water as a huge dumping site which is sad and just wrong. Countless studies and documentaries have exposed and supported the significance of life in the ocean, but most people rarely heed such calls. I believe one of the best ways to save the blue life is by practicing cleanliness even when were inland and by educating the young ones about its essence.

I would say that the pandemic that we are all going through right now is another call from the earth in living life to the fullest while looking into what's only essential. This is also the best time for us to reflect on our past actions especially those that we aren't proud of and to start something worthwhile and sustainable. Sustainability doesn't only stop with environmental concerns. It goes beyond as it also molds a person into someone better. That is something that I am working on. We don't have to be perfect at this, but little by little our actions would grow into something big - much bigger than the sky and the ocean. I hope these simple steps would help.

Ever since I started working, I found out that regardless of how much time I spend at my working place, how I connect with the people in it has so much to do with my emotional and mental well-being. It's one thing to be physically stressed from work, it's another thing to get stressed from the people you work with. Let's face it, we can't control our coworkers' personality. That being said, not everyone's going to be your cup of tea and you're not always going to be somebody's favorite person either. However, we can always work on how we can communicate with them and maybe build a connection that is both genuine and lasting beyond office hours.

👩 💼👨 💻Gear Away from Unprofessional Practices 👩 💼👨 💻

We all love to be treated professionally with respect and dignity. That’s not an impossible thing to achieve especially when you know that you are doing your job well and that you try to act in a professional manner while you’re at work. One way to achieve that is by gearing away from doing things that would make you look unprofessional. It could be being on your phone, watching movies, and taking a nap during work hours. Taking aside emergency calls, try your best to check your phone during breaks. It’s really cool to hang out with your coworkers over a new film, but that could also wait after your shift or during long breaks.

While nothing’s wrong with what was mentioned, there’s a perfect time for those. Doing such practices during work hours would not only make you look unprofessional towards your coworkers or superiors, but it might also affect your job performance.

👩 💼👨 💻Avoid Workplace Drama 👩 💼👨 💻

Being connected with your coworkers is amazing. However, try not to fall into the trap of sharing and spreading gossips especially if you know that what you’ve heard is untrue and simply none of your business. Sometimes, gossips are fun; I know that from experience, but it has something to do with what you are gossiping about. Gossip about a new fashion trend, a new drama series, or a conspiracy theory you’ve heard on Youtube, but try your best not to gossip about somebody at work.

Another way of getting away from gossips is to not overshare things that are not work-related. Separate what should be kept personal and what you could share with your coworkers. At the end of the day, any form of drama at work won’t only create possible disagreements, it won’t also make you any better with your job.

👩 💼👨 💻Don't Be Bossy if You're Not the Boss👩 💼👨 💻

I don’t care who needs to hear this, but if you are working with other people, you have to learn how to work with them. Learn when to compromise and determine the greater good for everyone at work even if you’re not in the same echelon, let’s say you’re in the managing position. That doesn’t mean that you have to stop managing people, but if your method of leading others doesn’t get you or your workmates anywhere better, think of the things that you have to adjust. It could be your attitude or your personal preferences.

👩 💼👨 💻Learn to Listen 👩 💼👨 💻

I must say that good communication begins with mutual respect. In the workplace, it’s especially true regardless of your work position. Any negative situation arises from bad communication. How we communicate builds our relationship with our coworkers, and it is our relationship with them which would determine the work culture of the company. As I grew older, I learn to focus on the work culture of a company rather than its monetary benefits. Although the latter is important, our emotional being matters more. Work is just part of our lives, it shouldn't be our life.

In a situation where it cannot be helped and conflict arises at work, try to deal it in a proper way. Refrain from posting about it on Facebook. Lol The best way to do that is by listening to both sides and focusing on what you can learn out of the not-so-good situation.

👩 💼👨 💻Participate in the Company's Activities 👩 💼👨 💻

Do you want to work with a slacker? I hope not. Try to work not only for yourself but also towards the success of the company you are working for. Participate in the company's efforts in building a strong relationship with you and your coworkers. If needed, don't hesitate to share your knowledge, talents, and skills. Trust me, it will not only benefit your company. It will also help you in becoming a valuable asset of your company and hone whatever skills you have. Chances are, those skills may come handy outside your workplace or when you grow out of your workplace. Moreover, participating in your company's activities will give you the chance to learn something new and have fun with your coworkers.

I'm definitely not a sports person, but one sport that never ceases to amaze me is skateboarding. It's just amazing to witness someone gliding and moving around swiftly almost like air all while being on top of a board. Every time I see someone skateboarding, the sight makes me feel free. I know, that sounds very poetic but that's just how I feel about it.

I used to watch my brother skateboarding with his friends all while being under the scorching heat of the sun. It's the same brother who taught me how to ride a bicycle, by the way, him being the biggest sports fan in our family. Although I never had the chance to go skateboarding myself, looking at how my brother found joy with it makes me wonder so much about skateboarding and all of the things that has something to do with such as how one gets to choose the best skateboard for him or herself.

I asked around the skateboarders in our area and searched the internet for a basic guide and that's what I'll be sharing with you in this blog. Who knows you and I would get to try skateboarding, right?

The first thing that I learned about choosing the most suitable skateboard is going to the right shop. There are so many shops that sell skateboards these days, even online, there is a plethora of them, but the question is, is it the right store for you? Why does this even matter and how could a shop possibly help you? The answer is lies to what's in the shop itself. The right shop will get your hands to the quality skateboards that suits your style and your needs. With that in mind, most of those are surely run by professionals who are capable of catering to your needs and could give you advice on how to board in general. Not only that, but they could also show you how a good skateboard looks like and could answer your queries that could help you with your future skateboard shopping sessions.

Among other things, you also have to consider the size of the skateboard. Now, what are the things that you should look into with that matter? First and foremost is the size of the deck itself which depends largely on your size. For instance, if you are over 5'3" in height, the best deck size for you must have at least 7.5''. If your height is between 4'5" to 5'2", choose the deck with the width of 7'3". If you're much shorter than the heights mentioned, choose decks with widths, not more than 7". According to a friend who skateboards a lot, this is another one of the main reasons why skateboarders must shop personally. That way, they could have the best grasp on the size of the skateboard decks that suits them best. Aside from the deck, the wheels of a skateboard matter a lot as well. The wheels contribute a lot on how your boards flip and glide. One thing that you should remember about it is that the larger the wheels are, the more grabs it could create.

Talking about skateboard decks, one thing that should not be neglected is how it was constructed. That includes the material used in making it. maple wood being the most popular choice in making skateboard decks remains to be the best type of wood material in making it. That is because of the wood's durability and flexibility which are very essential when the board is being shaped.

Another thing that I've learned is the importance of knowing the different styles of boards. There are four main types of boards and each of them varies depending on how you would like to skate. For example, on one hand, shortboards are great when you want to perform tricks in skating parks. On the other hand, if tricks are not part of your interest, go for longboards or cruisers.

Once you have covered all the basics in choosing a skateboard, at least in terms of its parts, it's time for you to work on the style of your skateboard. Some might say that it doesn't really matter, but I think that if it's really a sport that you love, you are free to make it an extension of yourself. So yes, go ahead and decorate your board the way you'd feel like decorating it. It's your board after all. Plus, the more creative it looks, I'm sure that it could spark you some inspiration to keep on boarding especially if you're a newbie.

This may not be part of how you choose a skateboard, but make sure that you get your hands on safety gears that you're supposed to wear while skateboarding. Any sports is always much better when done safely.

Hello! as you probably know by now, Mother's Day is fast approaching. It's that wonderful day where we can freely (and truly) express our love and gratitude to our moms. I feel like this celebration is very important as birthdays. Making our moms feel extra special on this day doesn't have to be expensive and crazy. A few good things showered with love is what I believe our mommies need.

For this coming Mother's Day, I've been thinking hard what to do/give for my mom. Here are some of the ideas I come up with and hopefully this will help if you are still looking for the best way on how to make your mom happy this Mother's day.

1. Be the Mommy of the Day

You don't have to be a mother to know how hard it is to be a mother. Moms have so many things to do and think about. Why not do some of your mom's work for a day? You can start by doing the laundry or by cleaning the house. If you have a younger sibling, take your time to be their baby sitter. It wouldn't only help lessen your mom's work, but it can also give you a good chance to be the best brother/sister that you can be.

2. Grant Her a Beauty Treat

Every girl loves to beautiful, our moms are no exemptions. Find out what beauty product appeals to your mom the most and surprise her with it. For instance, if your mommy is a makeup junkie, get her a subscription box full of cosmetics goodies that she could play with. Such kind of boxes is a little bit pricey so you may devise your own cosmetics box! Beauty doesn't end in makeup, it goes beyond fashion. You may buy her a chic purse, or if you can, treat her into a shopping free! This time, you don't have to worry that much because a number of sales and discounts are available during the Mother's day season.

3. Free Her Day from Stress

Moms are prone to stress even if they are not at work. That is because being a mommy is a full-time job that doesn't end from day to night. Mother's Day is the best day for you to help her de-stress. You may start by treating her a great body massage or take her to a beauty salon. You may also make her a breakfast in bed or prepare a dinner for the whole family where you could celebrate Mother's day together. It will lessen her work and make her de-stress because of happiness. Always remember: a happy mom is a stress-free mom. haha charot!

4. Thank Her

Let's admit it, thanking someone could be hard as apologizing to someone. We all have our reasons, but on Mother's day, let's make an extra effort to thank our mothers. I think it is one of the most important things that we often neglect to say. The Mother's day is a great chance for us to do it so thank your mom in any way that you can. Give her a thank you card or write her a letter. Those will never go out of style. Tell her what you really feel and how important she is to you. If you are not living together with your mom, call her and don't forget to tell her you love her. They said spending your time to someone is the best way to show them how much you love them. So no matter how busy you are, try your best to spend time with your mom and thank her.

5. Make Your Mama Proud

I believe that love is the most powerful tool that can help us become the best version of ourselves. Let your mom's love inspire you to be the best man/woman you can be. Whatever you are or whatever status in life you are in, strive to become somebody your mom can be proud of. Don't let your mom down and always try to be better.

Life has its own set of ups and downs which will test our overall strength. These days, I feel like life has taken its toll on me. I don't feel good in most aspects of my life particularly regarding my career. It's not that I am in trouble, but there is this mental confusion that I have to deal with. I'm still on my early 20s, but I know that I have to have the courage to deal with the questions that sat on my plate.

Whether I like it or not, I have to compromise a lot of things and reinvent should I wish to survive. Time and emotional support are definitely not on my side either. I'm currently at a point where the lines of hope and inspiration are both blurry. All I hear right now is noise, but I'm not covering myself to feel the sun's magnificence crawl on my skin again. My soul is under the weight of a pale and gloomy weather, and I can only hope that sun will dawn upon me soon. Dear God, I really hope so.

With all the drama going on, I'm glad that there are some things that make me see life in a brighter hue. These things make me feel less stress and a whole lot better.

Drinking Authentic Tea

It has been proven that aside from its antioxidants, teas can also help relax our mind and body. When our mind is relaxed, we can control our body and our emotions better. Teas are also great because when you need it, you can easily find and buy one. The only thing that you have to consider is the authenticity of the tea.

Trust me, it pays well to try an authentic tea hand-picked and brewed in the finest way possible. I like getting mine from Twinnings and when out, I get a fresh aromatic cup from Island Tea Co.

Getting a Good Sleep

I spend most of my time wistful thinking and well, crying in my bedroom when I have to. My room is my personal Xanadu where I can be myself more than anywhere else. When I feel that everything is failing, I let out a cry if I have to and sleep. I think it's becoming a habit, but it does make me feel good. I feel much better after sleeping of my problems. When I woke up, somehow, my mind feels much invigorated to think and come up with a plausible solution to solve my problems.

Listening to Good Songs

Music, like any other art forms, has its own special way of soothing our wounded soul. My choice of songs depends on my mood, but it's mostly indie and electronic pop songs. I'm currently obsessing over the band Oh Wonder and the soundtrack of the film "Call Me by Your Name". I feel empowered listening to Imagine Dragons too.

Visiting Pretty Places

I love my city. Though some parts of it are chaotic, my city makes me feel so alive. To let off the steam, I often find myself visiting Instagram-worthy places such as cafes and art galleries when the conditions are favorable. I'm also on the look-out for creative events which can open my mind to more and better perspectives. That includes meeting different people in other walks of life. The most recent event that I've attended is the Creative Crisscrossing at Crossroads.

Reading a Good Book

It's not a secret to my readers how much I adore books. Reading makes me feel inspired and more focused. I love how the act more pushes me to imagine and visualize certain scenarios be it fictional or not. I'm very much into fiction, but I'm also a fan of creative non-fiction works that can have a positive impact on my well-being. Stay tuned for my list of favorite books soon!

Being One with Nature

We may not know it, but it's probably all the noise that's making us feel stressed. It's not a surprising fact especially if you're naturally comfortable with calm and silence. It's great to be in a place with lush and healthy foliage. Not only does it freshens up your senses, but it can also surely calm one's mind. Don't know where to start? hike somewhere, visit a nearby garden, or plan a staycation in an eco-friendly place.

Meditating

I used to visit a Buddhist temple before for the sole reason of meditating. I am not practicing the religion, neither do I adhere to its standards. However, I do appreciate and try to embody some of its values. I've read a number of materials regarding Eastern religions and it was both overwhelming and great. It somehow, made me understand others.

Some people might have a notion that meditating is difficult, but it isn't. You don't really have to try so hard in doing it. You don't have to do it in a temple or anywhere sacred either. All you need is to immerse yourself in the beauty of silence. Breathe in and out. Try your best to silence that noise that has been disturbing you. Gather your thoughts and let your inner calm overcome your body and soul.

Right now, I no longer go to temples, but I do try to cleanse my mind by meditating in my personal space. You can do it too. After all, our body is a wonderful temple.

We (my media friends and I) weren't able to witness most of the activities in the Terraces, but we were able to spend a few minutes of our time chillin' with event attendees. Convergys hired a really good DJ and I was ecstatic to hear the songs of Kanye West from his latest Life of Pablo album wafting on the evening air.

What It's Like to Meet the Country's 'Pambansang Bae' Alden Richards

At the event, Convergys also introduced its newest brand ambassador, Alden Richards. The 23 year-old actor is undeniably one of the country's hottest and most loved faces in the entertainment industry. Among with his vast talent, he is best known as the other half of the AlDub love team opposite Maine Mendoza. Together, they conquer the hearts of millions of Filipino television viewers in their infamous Kalyeserye.

I have met Filipino celebrities before, but the closest I have ever been to one was with Alden. Of course, I didn't let the time pass without taking a selfie picture with him. Alden was very polite and very humble in answering the questions and submitting to the requests of the media men in the room. He even apologized to us for being late! The crazy traffic from the airport was definitely not his fault. haha I wasn't able to take decent photos of him because there are just so many other people who would love to be with him in a photograph.

After posting our picture on my Facebook account, a lot of people asked me how did he smell. Well, he smelled really good and he had a very ugh clear skin.

Richards' success story underscores hard work, determination, and perseverance as key essentials in pursuing and achieving goals. These are attributes that the company finds in its own employees- something that the younger echelon of workers (including me) should possess.

The Perks of Working in Convergys

I have never worked as a call center agent and I don't have plans in working as one in the near or in the distant future (I elaborate on this below). True enough, Convergys is one of the most popular BPO companies here in Cebu, perhaps also in the entire Philippines. My older brother and a few of my acquaintances have worked for Convergys and here's what they said when I asked them about the perks of working there:

I can't speak for all Convergys' employees because as I said, I haven't worked for them. What I can attest though is how they truly appreciate their employees. I once attended a family day hosted by CVG together with my mother and my younger brother. The invitation, of course came from my older brother who is working there. We had so much fun at that day and the company definitely gave us a simple, yet very wonderful family blow out.

Why I Vow Never to Work as a Call Center Agent

Contrary to what most people thought and asked me for so many times (which is kind of annoying), I don't work as a call center agent. I don't have anything against call center agents and BPO companies. I even admire those agents who are working hard especially those who are breadwinners, single moms and working students. My older brother who works as a call center agent did helped us a lot especially in paying the bills.

The reason why I don't work as one and why I don't want to is because it's not my passion. Simple as that. I don't want to commit myself into a job that I am not passionate about. This is a cliché, but I am a believer of the popular adage that in order for us to do great work, we have to love our work.

I don't get so much from m job right now, but it gives a really good satisfaction and it inspires me to get up and do the work laid into me. At the end of the day what matters is our happiness. As long as we love what we are doing and it's nothing destructive for ourselves or for anyone around us, then we are doing something good.

For us females, our hair will always be our crowning glory. I'd like to believe that it is true for all of us. I also believe that how we fix or style our hair can make a huge impact towards our overall appearance.

Though I was born with a straight hair, my hair is somehow coarse, and there are times where it feels dull and dry. (aka my hair feels and looks sabog lol) Of course I want to keep my hair feeling healthy as much as I can, but I'm not comfortable with undergoing any hair treatments offered by hair salons. Recently, I received a hair straightener from Irresistible Me.

I was a bit hesitant to try the hair iron because I am not used in using one and I'm also scared that the heat may damage my hair. Fortunately, their hair iron is one of kind as it has a number of features that will prevent any hair damage. It can also be used to achieve soft curls (which I also did with my sister's hair) but I'll focus this post on how I used it to further straighten my hair.

Note: I intend this post to be a blend of an guide post/review so I'll be sharing my thoughts about the hair iron itself briefly right after I elaborate how I got a straighter hair using it.

To see how long the iron works, or how long will it take me to straighten my hair, I decided to set aside 15 minutes to straighten my hair. I set the hair iron's temperature to 140 degrees Fahrenheit, then went ahead and straightened my hair while also combing it.

True enough, I was amazed how the iron quickly straightened my hair for 15 minutes. I'm also glad that it made my hair feel soft. It didn't make it look too fake ass straight. Just in case you do not know yet, I am currently residing in a country with a bipolar weather. One moment here in the Philippines, the weather will make you feel so high like Friday, and on the next moment, it goes gaga like my Monday mornings.

Summer already bid farewell two months ago, but somehow its unbearable heat never seems to go away. (Just like the love that we used to have chos!) Kidding aside guys, you'll know what I am talking about once you've visit the Philippines. Not that I am ranting because the Philippines has been tropical since time immemorial, but some days the calidity here is just simply unbearable. That is why, if you ever visit here, leave some of your coats and sweaters. Instead, bring with you summer dresses that will make you feel comfortable and fresh. Of course, pick something that looks decent enough if you don't want some chicos cat-calling you. lol

I know you guys wouldn't want to feel sticky and stressed-out during summer or in any regular hot days of your life, so here are three tips on how you can dress for summer:

1. Choose dresses with light colors and breathable fabrics

I don't have to explain this further as I know that you already know how relevant it is to wear something light during the hot season. Breathable fabrics like chiffon can also help your skin breath easily so you don't have to worry about feeling sticky all day. This white sleeveless pleated mini dress by SURESONG is just perfect. 2. Stay away from fabrics that will show sweat

This second tip might contradict the first one, but wearing light colored clothes/clothes with light fabrics won't work as good if you are naturally sweaty. Though nothing's wrong with wearing light clothes, the only trouble with it is that it would easily show sweat stains. And you wouldn't like that don't you? The solution for that is simple. You can either top your light colored top with something that has a pattern. Let's say you are wearing a white top made out of chiffon. Simply top it with a printed kimono that has the same fabric.

3. Love some length and sleeves

This is a post about how to dress for summer but why am I promoting dresses with sleeves? Climate change continues to affect our planet and wherever you are, I am sure that one way or another, you have experienced or witnessed its radical effects. As a case in point, skin experts advised us to protect our skin from the heat as much as we can. Sure there are sunblock creams out there, but what's better than wearing something with sleeves?
