Mexican Cravings on the Go

Ever since I finished reading Laura Esquivel's masterpiece (Like Water for Chocolate), I've been aching to have a fiesta of Mexican flavors. In my beloved city of Cebu, there are some Mexican restaurants where I can have some Mexican foods but something authentic is rare. Plus, the distance from those food establishments from our abode is quite a challenge on my part. What's good for me and for other Cebuanos though is that our city never runs out of Mexican staples like burrito, nachos, and tacos. I am more fortunate now that I no longer have to go somewhere far or anywhere out of our house because of Elloise Food Station.

Elloise Food Station delivers those freshly-made wonders of the tongue. The new player in the city's food industry seeks to serve Cebuanos budget-friendly Mexican foods without breaking their bank or going against the crazy traffic in the metropolis.

Now how do you level up your fun times at home? just visit www.honestbee.ph (or download their app) to order these cheesy delights! Below are photos of their mouthwatering products. My personal favorites are their nachos and fried tacos! 😛😊😋

I should warn you that the celebrated Mexican foods above would go beyond your cravings. It would satisfy your soul. We will be enjoying a long weekend and why not enjoy it some more with a little bit more cheese and flavors from Elloise? That's what's exactly on my mind right now and you too could get the value of your cash because right now, they're giving away FREE fried tacos for every minimum order of 300php. I don't say no for free especially if it's tacos! 😋

There's Joy in Life: A Project for Children in Conflict with the Law

In a report by the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Council, there are over 11,000 Filipino children in conflict with the law. From this number, most of them are accounted from the National Capital Region and the Western and Central Visayas where Cebu belongs.  “These children lost their way because their community or family did not guide them,” said Social Welfare Secretary Corazon Juliano-Soliman. “We ask your support in recognizing the rights of these children to be children.”

Last September 21, 2018, in celebration of the International Day of Peace, the Z Club of Childlink High School Cebu visited the My Home in Consolacion Cebu for their project  #There’s Joy in Life.  My Home is a rehabilitation center for children 15 years and below who are in conflict with the law.  Common offense range from theft and gangsterism which can give children access to alcohol and drugs.

Z Club members  recognize the needs of these children, them being of about the same age as these children in the rehabilitation centers.  The project #There’s Joy in Life offers hope to children in the rehabilitation centers that there are children of their age who cares.  The activities done in this project includes understanding good values, values redirection and team building workshops.  Children in the center were given chances to explore their interests so that they will realize that they have potentials and talents which they can use in the future. A music workshop was done where the children in the center and the Z club members put in their thoughts to come up with the lyrics of the song then an actual song was made which they performed during the presentation of output.  An entrepreneurial activity was also taught by the Z Club  members which was the making of rags, placemats, coasters, etc. made from old shirts.

This activity, though short it may be, seeks to bring hope and joy to the children whom they have worked with. The club seeks to organize other sessions for the My Home to be able to reach out to more children.

Watch the Addams Family Perform Live in Cebu!

I’ve always wanted to be part of a theater group and perform on stage. It started as a frustration when I wasn’t able to audition for a huge production in our school while I was still in the elementary. Fast forward four years ago, I was able to muster every ounce of confidence I had and perform a one-act play in front of a huge number of audience. It was a final project for a Theater course in college, but it is one of the most treasured experiences I have as a student. Learning about the art for a semester is also bliss as it made me appreciate it more.
Theater taught and gave me so much than being on stage. It taught me the value of hard work, time management, and the magic of healthy collaboration. What everybody doesn’t know is that it is more than just the spectacle on stage; it is a commitment, and just like any art forms, passion fuels it. I will always have a special respect and admiration to those who are in the theater industry. Now that I get the chance to teach the basics of the art, I hope that I shall pass on what I’ve learned to my students.
A couple of weeks ago, I attended a press conference for an upcoming theater performance here in our Cebu. It was musical play produced by one of the newest musical theater companies in Cebu - the Vaudeville Theater Company. Seeking to provide local artists an avenue for artistic expressions on stage, the company works with local artists and helps them discover and develop their potentials.
After the success of their first huge production You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown on 2016, Vaudeville is now ready to push the limits of Cebuano theater as it brings us a musical play featuring The Addams Family. The play will revolve around the darling daughter of the iconic family, Wednesday Addams.
Wednesday Addam, now eighteen years old, has found herself experiencing a surprising new sensation, one that frightens both her and her family: she has fallen in love.
As her family learn to relate to the seemingly normal Beinekes and cope with Wednesday's romance, one thing is certain, the Addams family will never be the same!

The Addams Family Musical is directed by artist, VTC Founder, extraordinaire, Penelop "Penny" Ong who was trained at Musical Theater International, New York and International Academy of Film and Television in Cebu. She has directed local and Broadway musicals including ballet shows. The Addam Family will be her 17th directiorial work.
Along with Penny, other talented Cebuanos also shared their passion in making the musical a future success. Actor, choreographer and stage performer Vince Gaton serves as the play's dance director. Two-time Awit Award-winning songwriter Jude Gitamondoc serves as its music director.

With all of their rehearsals and workshops, the actors revealed that theater brings out the best in them and inspires them to give their best.
For the young actors involved, doing the rehearsals while studying was no easy feat but a very rewarding one.

We got to listen to some of their songs and we were more than convinced to watch the musical. It will be another proof that Cebu is a home of creatives.
